PS–PVD Alumina Overlayer on Thermal Barrier Coatings Against CMAS Attack

نویسندگان

چکیده

Glassy deposits mainly comprising of calcium–magnesium–alumina–silicate (CMAS) accelerate the spallation thermal barrier coatings (TBCs). In this work, an Al2O3 layer was produced on yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) coating by plasma spray–physical vapor deposition (PS–PVD). The effects processing parameters during PS–PVD process microstructures deposited were investigated. A homogeneous with porosity less than 1% at spray distance 1400 mm, which is much denser atmospheric (APS) and other sprayed 1000 1900 mm. CMAS corrosion test 1250 °C showed that APS dissolved in after 24 h exposure, whereas a dense reaction composed anorthite formed top region effectively protected underlying from infiltration. Thermal cycling behavior Al2O3/YSZ TBC 1050 compared. Bulk occurred within 300 cycling, while little observed even 500 indicating superior durability coating.

Thermal Barrier Ceramic Coatings — A Review

Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) provide effective thermal barrier to the components of gas turbine engines by allowing higher operating temperatures and reduced cool‐ ing requirements. Plasma spraying, electron-beam physical vapor deposition, and sol‐ ution precursor plasma spray techniques are generally used to apply the TBCs on the metallic substrates. The present article addresses the TBCs f...

Microstructural investigations of EBPVD thermal barrier coatings

This paper deals with the morphology, constitutive phases and fine microstructures of some EBPVD processed yttria partially stabilized zirconia thermal barrier coatings. This study has been performed by X-ray diffraction and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. It was shown that the coatings studied were constituted of a single metastable tetragonal t' phase, as expected if one refers...

Thermophysical properties of thermal barrier coatings

Thin layers of thermal barrier coating (TBCs) are applied to metallic components of heat engines to reduce metal temperatures and to provide environmental protection. This results in increased engine efficiency and prolonged operational life. Of special current interest is the use of TBCs in aircraft engines. The TBCs, often yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), are deposited on nickel or cobalt-ba...

AN INVESTIGATION ON EFFECT OF BOND COAT REPLACEMENT ON HOT CORROSION PROPERTIES OF THERMAL BARRIER COATINGS

In the present study NiCrAlY bond coating layer was produced by electroplating against common atmospheric plasma spraying (APS). Both types of the bond coats were applied on IN738LC base metal then, the YSZ (ZrO2-8% Y2O3) thermal barrier top layer was coated by atmospheric plasma spray technique. Hot corrosion is one of the main destructive factors in thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) which come ...

Delamination of multilayer thermal barrier coatings

Multilayer thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) on superalloy substrates are comprised of an intermetallic bond coat, a thermally grown oxide (TGO) layer, and a porous zirconia top coat that provides thermal protection. The TGO attains a thickness of 1±10 lm prior to failure, while the bond coat and zirconia layer are each about 50±100 lm thick. The preferred method for manufacturing TBCs comprises ...
